Hey all, today I’d like to talk about perception based on appearances.

I’ll try to briefly explain:

  • How the changes in our physical appearance may dramatically shift others’ perceptions.
  • How this may be misleading, The Halo Effect
  • How others perceive us and how this affects our perception as well.
  • How the identity forms according to psychoanalysis/psychology.

Let me start by saying the important take in the beginning.

What we look like affects almost every aspect of our daily lives. From our social interactions to our job performance. People pay great attention to our general hygiene level, haircut, and shoes.

However, it is not healthy to let somebody else have a huge power to decide how you feel about yourself.

The Power of First Impressions:

When we see a person for the first time, even though we try not to do it, we categorize people. We at least have some basic opinions on them based on what they look or smell like.
