Psychology is trending. Most of us are seeing or have a friend who’s seeing a psychologist/therapist regularly. It seems like more and more of us are aware of the importance of our mental health and we’re actively trying to take better care of ourselves.
“Top 5 things to do to keep your mood up”. “How to beat your morning anxiety”. “Meditate and work out for a better state of mind”… There are many articles like these on medium.
It is undeniably true that we’re in a better situation in the field of psychology in 2023. But it wasn’t always like that.
Psychology is still a very young science. Like a baby who just learned to walk. Hopefully, it will develop at a faster pace than in the past since the stigmatization of psychological disorders is breaking.
- People feel less shame to admit they’re suffering from depression or anxiety.
I mean this is true for the younger generations at least. Most of our parents still see going to a psychologist means seeing a shrink and that’s for “the crazy people”.

Now, today I want to write the 8 major developments in the field of psychology.
8 Important Moments in the History of Psychology
1 In 1879, Wilhelm Wundt established the first laboratory dedicated to experimental psychology at the University of Leipzig (Germany). This marked the beginning of psychology as a scientific discipline separate from philosophy and other fields.
2Ivan Pavlov and classical conditioning: In the late 1800s, Ivan Pavlov conducted experiments with dogs that led to the discovery of classical conditioning. He found that by pairing a neutral stimulus (like a bell) with a stimulus that naturally elicits a response (like food), he could condition the dog to respond to the neutral stimulus alone (by salivating when the bell rang).
